Soul: Tobsha Learner

Spanning 19th century London and 21st century Los Angeles, SOUL links the lives of two women and the dangerous paths they choose. Professor Julia Huntington studies a rare breed of soldier who can kill without remorse. She fears that the answer to whether a killer is born or made lies in our genes. Does she too share this gene? And how far will she go if pushed hard enough?

Sexy and socially aware

A major cultural event for Albany, Western Australia, the Sprung Writers Festival is designed for lovers of books, writing, words, ideas, contemplation and laughter!

This year Sprung marks its ninth outing with a sexy and socially aware program. Leading Australian social commentator Hugh Mackay, novelist Tobsha Learner, the multi-talented Wendy Harmer and children’s author Elizabeth Honey lead the line-up.

They are supported by first-time author and sharp-eyed chronicler of the end of whaling Chris Pash, whose book The Last Whale will be launched at the festival.

Also on the program are: poets Dennis Haskell, Barbara Temperton and Maree Dawes; Noongar author Eric Hayward; songwriter and musician Geoff Waldeck; performance poets Vivienne Glance and Hypertheatre; along with regular MCs Glenn Swift and Jon Doust.

Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany. WA, Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September 2008
